Local Transit Sales and Use Tax and a Transit Vehicle Excise Tax

The sales and use tax is 0.5 percent and the excise tax is $20 per vehicle transfer. The taxes were imposed by Beltrami County by County Resolution Number 13-12-46 adopted December 3, 2013. The County Board revised the project list by County Resolution Number 16-12-60 adopted December 13, 2016.

Local Option Sales Tax for the County Jail Project

On November 7, 2023, voters in Beltrami County approved a new 5/8ths percent (0.625%) Sales and Use Tax to collect revenue to pay for the design and construction of the New Beltrami County Jail. The project is currently in the design phase and is slated to break ground in 2024 with construction estimated to conclude and the new Jail open in 2026. The Sales and Use Tax will remain in effect for 30 years or until the bonds are retired, whichever comes first.
