John Carlson is semi-retired, currently doing accounting for his son’s business as well as occasional business and accounting consulting. John was a Certified Management Accountant and insurance agency owner prior to retirement. He served two years in the Minnesota Senate from 2011 to 2012.
John came to Bemidji in 1971 to attend Bemidji State University. He graduated from BSU with a degree in Business Finance and has lived here ever since. His wife is a life-long resident of Bemidji and he has two grown children that both work and raise their families in Bemidji. John spent many years coaching youth baseball and hockey and currently enjoys watching his 6 grandkids play youth sports. In his spare time, John enjoys golfing and spending time on the lake.
