Sheriff's Office: Pedestrian Stuck By Vehicle

On April 1, 2024, at 0740 hours, the Beltrami County Communications Center received multiple 911 calls of a passenger vehicle that had struck a pedestrian on Irvine Avenue near the intersection of Spruce Grove Lane.  Beltrami County Deputies, Minnesota State Patrol, and paramedics with Bemidji Ambulance responded to the scene.  A twenty-eight-year-old male was located in the west ditch of Irvine Avenue with severe injuries.  Bemidji Ambulance paramedics transported the male to an awaiting air-care helicopter where he was flown to Sanford Hospital of Fargo, ND.

From initial investigation of the crash scene, the pedestrian was walking north bound along the west ditch of Irvine Avenue as the passenger vehicle was traveling south bound.  The passenger vehicle drifted off the roadway and struck the pedestrian.  The passenger vehicle involved in the incident returned to the scene and the adult female driver cooperated with the investigation.  The driver was processed at the scene for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence and was taken into custody.

The identification of the subjects involved in this incident are pending formal charges by the Beltrami County Attorney’s Office.
