Press Release: Tuesday Evening Storm Update

Press Release: Tuesday Evening Storm Update

June 24, 2025

The Beltrami County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) remains open to support response to the destructive severe weather that struck Beltrami County during the morning hours of June 21, 2025. The EOC has been receiving reports of “lookie-loos” or people driving around just to view the disaster impeding recovery efforts. Please keep clear of heavy machinery and allow them to safely work as they clear debris and restore utilities.

The County is the primary receiver of storm debris. Our resources are fully extended accepting and processing storm debris. The County is very large and so is the impact of the storm damage. We simply do not have the manpower, equipment, or resources to offer curbside pick-up. All available county solid waste resources are currently deployed accepting and processing storm debris. The County has had to request additional state resources from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) just to stand up a second remote debris collection site. The County is also in the process of trying to open 1-2 more sites as well. Without these sites, there would be no place for residents or other jurisdictions to take the storm debris. City and Townships may provide this service in their municipality.

Commercial haulers that are currently or planning on hauling anything other than tree debris in Beltrami County require a haulers license.  Application & requirements can be found on the County website.  Residents should also ask if your hauler is licensed in Beltrami County, this is for their protection as well so the waste is being delivered to a permitted facility.

Solid Waste has extended demolition landfill hours and expanded to a second location. The field behind Target at 2115 23rd St NW is now equipped to accept tree debris, opening Tuesday, June 24. This location will ONLY accept tree debris. Both the permanent Demolition Landfill and the temporary location will be open Tuesday-Saturday this week from 7am-7pm.

Commercial haulers who have a large load in either a roll-off container or dump truck can bypass the Demolition Landfill and discard tree debris at Pine Products located at 50774 County Road 45, Bemidji (this is in Hubbard County south of Highway 2). Pine Products will only accept tree debris from commercial haulers from 7am-5pm Monday through Friday.
