Press Release: Compressive Safety Action Plan

Beltrami County Launches Comprehensive Safety Action Plan with Support from Federal SS4A Grant

Beltrami County has been awarded planning funds through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program to lead the development of a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan (CSAP), a strategic, countywide effort to reduce and ultimately eliminate serious injuries and fatalities on local roadways.

The Safe Streets and Roads for All program supports communities in creating plans and implementing transportation safety projects that move toward the long-term goal of zero roadway fatalities.

Beltrami County’s CSAP will be rooted in the Safe System Approach, a national framework that emphasizes safer people, safer roads, safer speeds, safer vehicles, and better post-crash care. The plan will combine crash data, technical analysis, and community input to identify local safety challenges and develop prioritized strategies to make roads safer for all users including drivers, walkers, bikers, transit riders, and commercial vehicles.

“Safety on our roadways is a top priority for Beltrami County,” said Bruce Hasbargen, Beltrami County Engineer. “The Comprehensive Safety Action Plan will help us better understand where serious crashes are occurring and why. With support from the SS4A grant, we can take a proactive, data-driven, and community-informed approach to making our roads safer for everyone who uses them.”

Developing a CSAP also positions Beltrami County to apply for future SS4A implementation funding, enabling the County to deliver safety improvements identified through the plan.

Public engagement opportunities will include community events, focus groups, an online survey, and an interactive feedback map.
