Become a Family Child Care Provider

Beltrami County is responsible for licensing family child care homes in the county. Providers who care for children from more than one family must be licensed. The county conducts orientations, background studies, home interviews, safety checks, recommends licensure, conducts investigations, and supports providers in meeting the health and safety needs of the children in the providers’ care.

 To be licensed by Beltrami County the following must be completed:

New applicants must complete the following pre-service training requirements prior to licensure:

 

Child Growth & Development/Behavior Guidance
(4 hours)

* Supervising for Safety (6 hours)
  Pediatric CPR - must include hands on skills
  First Aide
* SUID - Sudden Unexpected Infant Death
* AHT - Abusive Head Trama
 

Child Passenger Restraint
(if transporting children under age 9)

*Department of Human Services approved trainings only. Trainings can be completed in person or online and can be accessed on the Develop website.

DEVELOP - Search and register for Minnesota Center for Professional Development approved training.

EAGER-TO-LEARN - Search and register for online trainings approved by the MN Center for Professional Development.

Minnesota Department of Human Services - Sudden Unexpected Infant Death and Abusive Head Trauma SUID videos.

American Heart Association - CPR and first aid training.

Child Care Aware of Minnesota supports the professional growth of child care providers by offering trainings, guidance and grants (including start up grants).

Develop connects providers to trainings and tracks their training progress.

First Children's Finance provides loans and business development assistance to high-quality child care businesses serving low and moderate income families.

Center for Inclusive Child Care provides free relationship-based professional development (RBPD) including support, training, modeling and resources to child care programs throughout Minnesota.

Northwest Minnesota Foundation provides funding for organizations working to improve child care quality or child care availability. NMF has developed three potential funding areas that applicants can use to determine if they are eligible for funding: Child Care Availability & Quality, Early Childhood Education, and High School Child Care Careers (Workforce Development).

Fees

Initial Application:  $50
Renewal Application:  $100
Background Study for ages 13-17:  $20
Background Study for ages 18+:   $40 plus $9.10 for fingerprinting
Fire Marshal Inspection (if applicable):  $50
Annual Well Water Test (if applicable):  $40
Additional fees may implemented for Special Use Permits based on municipality
