Deputy Jason Riggs has been a Beltrami County Deputy Sheriff since the summer of 2004.   Deputy Riggs has been a Peace Officer in the State of Minnesota since January 2001.  Prior to his current service, Deputy Riggs has served the following communities: City of Blackduck, Leech Lake Reservation, City of Deer River, and the City of Floodwood. 

In October of 2007 Deputy Riggs attended the Top Dog K9 Academy in Evansville, IN.  It was in Evansville where Deputy Riggs was paired up with his K9 partner, Chris.  Riggs and K9 Chris attended 6 weeks of intense training at the Top Dog K9 Academy.   The training consisted of Human Scent Tracking, Criminal Apprehension, Narcotics Interdiction and General Obedience.  Upon graduation in late November Deputy Riggs and K9 Chris returned to Beltrami County and have been patrolling and serving their community together since.

K9 Chris is a 3½  year old German Sheppard male born in Slovakia.  His full name is Chris Samova Risa born on 02/25/2006.  Chris is all Black with Brown paws and weighs about 90lbs.
