Crime Stoppers
The Beltrami County Sherriff’s Department has joined with Crime Stoppers of Minnesota to increase the ways that citizens can pass on anonymous tips about crimes. In addition to staying anonymous, persons giving tips may be eligible to collect up to $1,000 in reward. The additional ways that citizens can turn in tips may save thousands of dollars of investigators time. Tips may be turned in at a Toll Free phone number, On Line or through SMS Text Messaging, all supplied and maintained by Crime Stoppers of Minnesota.
Through this partnership, the Beltrami County Sherriff’s Department will receive tips that Crime Stoppers collects through its technology and by the increased publicizing of crimes needing additional information to be solved.
Through Crime Stoppers citizens can volunteer tips through a Toll Free phone number (1-800-222-TIPS [8477]), online at www.crimestoppersmn.org, or by texting TIP674 plus a message to CRIMES [274637]. Crime Stoppers guarantees that its procedures protect the identity of the tipster from law enforcement or anyone else, and may pay up to $1,000 for tips that lead to an arrest or charging in a case.
Crime Stoppers of Minnesota is a non-profit organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors who oversee the operations and fundraising efforts for tax deductible contributions. It has been in place in Minnesota since 1979 and was the nation’s second such program to be formed. Today there are over 1300 Crime Stoppers programs around the world.
