PLEASE call before you dig! Activities in wetlands are regulated by the Minnesota Wetland Conservation Act of 1991 (WCA). If you think you may be doing any earth work inside an area that could be identified as wetland, PLEASE Call the Beltrami County Environmental Services Department and have them come out to view the area that you are proposing work in BEFORE any work is started. This service is FREE!
Fees are TRIPLED for non-exempt activities in regulated wetlands and restoration may be required at owners’ expense.
Before you:
Move or remove ANY soil |
start ANY excavating |
Add fill to ANY hole or area |
Make ANY shoreland or wetland alteration |
Undertake ANY construction |
Call Beltrami County Environmental Services to help you verify that you are not violating Wetland Conservation Act, Department of Natural Resources of Beltrami County Zoning regulations.
These regulations DO NOT prevent proper development of wetland property but they DO prevent harmful and destructive development such as that done in past years before current regulations went into effect. They also help the property owner from inadvertently damaging his/her own property, thus reducing its value.
