Solid Waste and Recycling
In 1992, Beltrami County enacted a Solid Waste Service Fee charge on all residential structures. This includes residential, single-family homes, duplexes, apartments and mobile homes. Beltrami County also enacted a service fee on all seasonal structures by charging one-half of the adopted Solid Waste Service Fee.
Beltrami County Solid Waste Management Program’s budget is approaching 2.6 million dollars per year. Beltrami County is generating approximately 30,000 tons of solid waste. A major component is recycling. The County is required to recycle at least 25% of its total waste stream. Therefore, it’s very important for County residents to recycle. Residents are provided means to recycle through the Solid Waste Management Program provided by Waste Management of Bemidji. They provide recycling areas at both Bemidji and Blackduck Solid Waste Transfer Stations. There are rural sites located at strategic points throughout the County.
