Current Year Tax Payment Information

Property Tax Statements for Real Estate properties will be mailed by March 31st. Tax information and printable copies of the tax statements will be accessible online by April 1st.

Partial payments are accepted on current taxes.  If any portion of the tax is overdue, the penalty is paid first on the current tax per M.S. 277.02; 279.01, Subd. 1.

Partial payments are also accepted on delinquent taxes.  Payments are applied in inverse order per M.S. 280.39.  (Example – Pay 2007 & Pay 2008 are delinquent – a partial payment would be applied to the total 2008 tax, penalty, interest and cost first, then any more payments would be applied to the 2007 amounts.) Amounts received are applied first to penalty, interest, and costs, with the remaining balance applied to the tax.

Taxpayers may pay taxes by one of the following methods:

1. By Mail - must be postmarked by the US Post Office on or before the due date. Please mail payment and stub to: Beltrami County, Auditor/Treasurer, 701 Minnestoa Ave. Suite 220, Bemidji, MN 56601

2. In Person - Cash and check payments are accepted at the Real Estate and Tax Services Office located in the County Administration Building, first floor, 701 Minnesota Ave. NW, Bemidji, MN from 8:00 am - 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. Payment must be in U.S. dollars by money order or draft from a U.S. bank or U.S. branch.  Draft must have bank’s coded transit number along bottom edge.  Payments not meeting these requirements cannot be accepted.  Please bring your tax payment stub with you.

3. 24-Hour Drop Box - located in the East Customer Parking lot of the County Administration Building, 701 Minnesota Ave NW, Bemidji MN.  The box can be found on the north end of the center median.

4. On-Line or By Phone - (have your parcel ID number and tax amount due ready)

Phone payments can be made at 1-800-272-9829.  You will need to identify Beltrami County’s Jurisdiction Code of 3322. E-check is available at a cost of $2.75 per electronic check payment.  You will need to have your bank routing number and account number available when you enter the on-line process.

Multiple Parcel Owners please note:  If you want to combine the amount owned on all of your parcels and enter it as a payment to one parcel number, you may do so in order to pay the $2.75 fee only once and to save the e-check fee for each individual payment.  If you combine payments to one parcel number, you must notify us by e-mail.

Credit and Debit Cards – According to Minnesota Law, the county cannot absorb the fee that credit card companies charge.  If you pay by credit or debit card, you will be charged the 2.5% fee that is calculated on the amount you want to pay.  If you combine taxes to submit multiple parcels under one parcel number, you will need to notify us of all of your parcel numbers by e-mail.

You must be sure your transaction is completed by waiting to receive a confirmation number.  A convenience fee will be charged by the company that processes these payments.  According to Minnesota Law, the county cannot absorb the fee that credit card companies charge.  If you pay by credit or debit card, you will be charged the 2.5% fee that is calculated on the amount you want to pay.

Payments are considered timely if you submit them by 11:59P.M. on the due date.

Penalty must be added to the unpaid amount if not received on or before the due date.  Please see the Penalty Chart below.

Failure to receive a property tax statement does not exempt the taxpayer from timely payment of the taxes due. First half tax payments must be paid in full with penalty (if applicable) prior to applying money towards second half payment. If you are unsure of how penalty is calculated or what is due, please contact Real Estate and Tax Services. To obtain a copy of your tax statement, use the Property Tax Inquiry.
